What is it?

I saw this strange looking bird's nest in one of our trees confused as to why I have not noticed it. Then I realized that is no bird's nest that is an animal. Can you identify?

    I also think it's a raccoon. Since I really know my animal kingdom, I'm almost certain.

    It was a raccoon. I was nervous it was an opossum. I had seen one in our yard the other week. Those things are freaky.
